Job Title: Project Accountant – Construction

Location: Columbus, OH
Job Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Division Director

Position Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Project Accountant to join our construction team in Ohio. The Project Accountant will play a critical role in managing the financial aspects of multiple construction projects, ensuring accuracy in job costing, compliance with budgets, and timely reporting. This role bridges accounting and project management by supporting project teams with accurate financial data and analysis throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor and manage job cost accounting for multiple ongoing construction projects.
• Prepare and review monthly project billing and AIA (American Institute of Architects) payment applications.
• Track project budgets, commitments, change orders, and cost forecasts.
• Work closely with Project Managers to provide accurate financial reporting and cost analysis.
• Process subcontractor invoices, verify lien waivers, and ensure compliance with contract terms.
• Assist in managing contract documentation, including owner contracts, subcontract agreements, and change orders.
• Ensure timely and accurate month-end close procedures for all assigned projects.
• Support the annual budgeting process and periodic re-forecasting for projects.
• Collaborate with external auditors during project audits and year-end audits.
• Maintain compliance with GAAP and internal company policies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field a plus.
• 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles and job cost accounting.
• Experience with AIA billing and construction contract documentation.
• Proficiency in construction accounting software.
• Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial reporting tools.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
